Past wish recipient, Morgan Owens came to HUGS with an idea she had of paying it forward. Her wish was to run the Chicago Marathon and help raise money for a single mom in need of a reliable car. The timing was perfect, as we just started thinking about what we could do special for our
1000th Wish approaching!
After donations from our community, months of fundraising, and the generosity of D'Arcy Motors, HUGS was able to present Julie with a reliable used car to help her and her family move forward!

Wish # 999 - Date Night

8f84747d-9c2c-4133-9762-bc92ae6ec8db.jpg

We recently fulfilled wish #999 for Jill Jennings of Plainfield. Jill has been in treatment for breast cancer for about a year.

With all of the challenges that go hand in hand with cancer treatment, Jill and her husband hadn’t been able to have a “date night” in a very long time. We were so excited to present Jill with a couples massage (donated by Divas Salon &Spa of Shorewood) as well as a Chicago dinner cruise. When asked what this wish meant to her, Jill said: “After the hardest year of my life battling breast cancer, I was gifted a date night with my husband. Words can not express how thankful we are to Shorewood HUGS for gifting us with a priceless evening to celebrate life and what God has done!” Timing is everything. A few days before her special wish, Jill received the news that she was waiting for. Treatments had worked and she is cancer free! What a wonderful celebration wish #999 turned into and HUGS is thrilled to be apart of that very special memory for Jill and her husband.

Homes for the Hounds Doghouse

We had a great day supporting Habitat for Humanity at the Homes for Hounds event! We had fun making a cute “in door” dog house for a small to medium dog.

Supporting our Community

Red Leaves_edited.png

We partnered with Jeff Reid @ Jerrie’s Dogs and More, to provide snacks and drinks for those working at the mass vaccination site at Joliet West High School! We are thankful to be able to support our community as we continue to work through the pandemic.

Sweet Wish #1001

Red Leaves_edited.png

Recently we delivered Wish #1001 to a sweet woman who is going through treatment. We loved pampering her with a comforting blanket & slippers as well as a visa gift card and various other gift cards to help with meals & gas since she drives out of town for treatments.

Thank you!

Shorewood HUGS is excited to announce that we are the recipient of a very generous donation. We received $10,000 of visa gift cards from Local United Automobile Workers of America #6!

This will go so far in supporting our wishes program and miscellaneous expenses that we incur through the year.

Our gratitude can’t truly be expressed adequately with a simple thank you! This donation means so much to our organization and the communities that we serve!

Many, many thanks to Local United Automobile Workers of America #6! Sending big HUGS to all of you!

Junior HUGS

It’s been over a year since we’ve been able to do any in person volunteering. It was so wonderful to take a group of our senior Junior HUGS members to pack food at Feed My Starving Children! These girls are amazing and truly enjoy community service. We are so proud of them and all that they have accomplished at such young ages.

Sending big HUGS to all of you as you finish your high school years and head off to college.
