Wish # 1074 - Love for Lizzie

Lizzie.jpg

From Lizzie's mom on her fan page:
"Huge shout out to Shorewood HUGS who surprised Lizzie with a visit today! Bringing her endless fun! We are so thankful for organizations like this. Lizzie knew she was getting something today but we didn’t share what it was! She has already opened her Lego set and knows which movie she wants to go see! To all those who have continued to bring her happiness…we thank you! #allbecauseofanorgandonor #loveforlizzie"

Wish # 1070 - Grandparents Love

These lovely grandparents lost their beautiful daughter Crystal to cancer.
They are now raising their cute 10-year-old granddaughter, who is a fashionista. We gifted her gift cards to shop for summer and school clothes and her grandparents were given gift cards to their favorite restaurants.  This family is so loving and appreciative!

Wish # 999 - Date Night

Wish #1067 - Wildlife Rescuer

An employee of the Forest Preserve District of Will County submitted a wish for Helen. Helen is a wildlife rehabber and has literally given her life to saving animals. She literally spends ALL DAY EVERY DAY feeding and caring for injured and orphaned squirrels and other animals in need.

While she is state licensed, rehabbers unbelievably receive NO funding. She literally pays for everything herself with very few if any donations. We were able to provide her with a very needed cage and ordered the special formula she needs! She was moved to tears and so thankful for the help!

Supporting our Community

We are always looking forward to giving
back and supporting our community, from meals for medical and hospital personnel, participating in Team Nicholas Trivia Night, supporting the Plainfield Junior Women's Club Clues for A Cause after-party, to supporting the Habitat for Humanity Women Who Build project, passing out food at a Northern Illinois Food Bank pop up market and our annual participation at Relay for Life. We so appreciate the continued support and recognition of our community!!

We had a great day supporting the 2021 Habitat for Humanity at the Homes for Hounds event! We had fun making a cute “indoor” doghouse for a small to medium dog.

Wish #999 was for Jill Jennings of Plainfield. Jill has been in treatment for breast cancer for about a year.

With all of the challenges that go hand in hand with cancer treatment, Jill and her husband hadn’t been able to have a “date night” in a very long time. We were so excited to present Jill with a couples massage (donated by Divas Salon &Spa of Shorewood) as well as a Chicago dinner cruise. When asked what this wish meant to her, Jill said: “After the hardest year of my life battling breast cancer, I was gifted a date night with my husband. Words cannot express how thankful we are to Shorewood HUGS for gifting us with a priceless evening to celebrate life and what God has done!” Timing is everything. A few days before her special wish, Jill received the news that she was waiting for. Treatments had worked and she is cancer free! What a wonderful celebration wish #999 turned into and HUGS is thrilled to be a part of that very special memory for Jill and her husband.

Celebrating 15 Years!

Shorewood Hugs is entering it's 15th Year! We honor and celebrate our Founders for the vision they had sitting around a kitchen table wanting to find a way to give back to our community! No one dreamed how this organization would grow and the ways we are able to give back and support our community!

If you don't know them, meet the women who started it all. Laura Charland, Lorayne Wright, Sue Coyle, Rita Guenther and Heidi Serena.

We had the great honor of receiving a large donation from Will County Brewing Company! This donation was made possible by the recent Brew Run!

Thank You to Will County Brewing Company for your extreme generosity and for choosing HUGS to support at your annual Brew Run! Thank you to all of the runners that participated in this event which made this donation possible!

Junior HUGS

Friday, September 9th - National Teddy Bear Day!

Several of our members (and their family members) visited Alden Estates in Shorewood to pass out HUGS Bears to their residents! We really enjoyed our time visiting and providing a pick-me-up for these special residents. Sending big HUGS to the fine folks at Alden Estates.

Thanks for submitting!

It’s been over a year since we’ve been able to do any in person volunteering. It was so wonderful to take a group of our senior Junior HUGS members to pack food at Feed My Starving Children! These girls are amazing and truly enjoy community service. We are so proud of them and all that they have accomplished at such young ages.

Sending big HUGS to all of you as you finish your high school years and head off to college.
